Q&A:

katnalu asked how to build drawer under stairs?

I am finishing the basement and wanted to know how to build sliding drawer under stairs. Currently the stairs are open from both the sides. I need help is planning may be with pictures to explain how to do it. thanks,

And got the following answer:

if you go to the home depot… in the hardware area the have full extension drawer slides that can handle up to 250 pounds. i bought these same slides for drawers that i put in my work bench at home. you will have to make your own drawers, but someone with a little bit of mechanical ability should be able to do this. or contact a contractor to make them for you. Great idea putting the drawers under each step though

sara h asked how do I build a platform bed queen size?

I have an idea of how I want the headboard to look so thats no problem i just need to know where to get started like the frame… braces and suppor where does all of it go to make a good quality platform bed??? Also any ideas for building a drawer to go on either side or possibly both for extra linnens…..

And got the following answer:

I hope you have a well equipped shop for this all, that’s quite an task your taking on.

The simple bed is easy, the rest, the drawers and etc, are going to be hard for you unless your experienced and have all the tools.

The bed is a simple box, made any way you want. You might find the plans for one on Woodworkers.com or Mieselhobbycrafters.com and, good luck

Austin asked How to make/get a curved wooden drawer “face”?

I am building a drawer for my bathroom about 3 ft tall by 2 ft wide (Very rough guess). However, my design for the “face” of the drawer requires a curved wooden surface.

So, my question. How would I make/get/form/whatever a curved wooden surface? Is there someplace known for selling or forming this sort of thing or does somebody know a way to create this with a basic workshop available. My partner and I have a few methods that we’ve thought of, but they aren’t easy and/or possible with our equipment.

Any suggestions or ideas would be much appreciated 🙂

And got the following answer:

I am sure you know that it will take moist heat to form the curved surface you seem to want. You could try at a place that does millwork. They might have the right equipment for that. Or send an e-mail to “Ask This Old House”. I don’t have that address but I am sure you can get it.
